Life and Education

Sohail Ahmed was born on February 5th, 1984, in Pakistan. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, where he distinguished himself as a recipient of multiple scholarships and awards, including the prestigious Sword of Honor and Best General Service Training Trophy. Notably, he served as the team leader in the inaugural Aircraft Design Build & Fabrication Competition, showcasing his early leadership and engineering prowess.

Building upon his undergraduate success, Sohail pursued a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering at Air University, Islamabad, where he secured the first position and earned a Graduate Scholarship. This marked the beginning of his journey into academia and research in the field of aerospace engineering.

His thirst for knowledge and academic excellence led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Material Science & Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia. Sohail's doctoral research focused on enhancing the magnetic properties of 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDCs) through innovative techniques such as annealing and chemical doping. His contributions significantly advanced the understanding of these materials, laying the groundwork for future developments in spintronics and magnetic semiconductors.

He has expertise in materials synthesis, microstructural characterization & microstructural analysis such as electron microscopy (transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) etc.) and various spectroscopy techniques (Raman, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) etc.).

Professional Career

Following the completion of his Ph.D., Sohail embarked on a multifaceted career that seamlessly blended academia, research, and industry. He held various academic positions, including Assistant Professor at the College of Aeronautical Engineering (CAE), NUST, Risalpur, and later as an Associate Professor at Air University, Kamra. His teaching portfolio encompassed a wide array of courses, ranging from Finite Element Method (FEM) to Advanced Mechanics of Composites.

Simultaneously, Sohail ventured into the industry, serving as a Deputy Director of Materials and Structures at Aerospace Design & Innovation Center (ADIC), NASTP Kamra, where he spearheaded indigenous development and validation projects for aerial systems. His expertise in material selection, structural design, and aeromechanical analysis played a pivotal role in advancing Pakistan's aerospace capabilities.
